Many people who suffer from panic attacks say that this is even worse than a heart attack. Panic symptoms in fact often closely mimic that of a heart attack. Let us briefly discuss the nature of panic attacks.

As mentioned before, these can be very similar to a heart attack. The patient will experience a rapid heart rate or heart palpitations. There will sometimes be chest pains and often you will feel as if you can’t breathe. Sufferers will often also experience numbness in certain parts of the body, hot flushes and muscle pains.

Some people sweat profusely when experiencing a panic attack. Others experience a complete lack of strength, a severe weakness in their arms and legs. Often the person getting an attack will feel that he’s going crazy or dying. Another common symptom is nausea or dizziness.

Panic attacks and depression are often closely linked together. Those suffering from panic attacks are prone to depression and also the other way round. Many people go through feelings of complete despair. Thinking of death is prevalent and suicide plans often take shape under these circumstances.

The causes of panic or anxiety attacks can be numerous. In a very large percentage of cases the exact cause is never established. In some cases it can be traced back to certain foods or beverages, such as drinking too much coffee or taking in too much sugar. Menopause and other hormonal imbalances can also sometimes contribute to panic attacks.

Attacks are sometimes triggered by a specific situation, such as being in a confined space, being exposed to great heights or being close to a large body of water. Very often people suffer from what is called general anxiety disorder, where even something mundane like watching television can trigger an attack.

There’s a large number of medications available on the market to alleviate panic attacks. Some examples are beta blockers, tranquilizers and the so-called benzodiazepines. When they feel that an attack is oncoming, many people start to experience the symptoms of an attack already. Some medications concentrate on relieving this ‘anticipatory’ panic, while others concentrate on providing relief for the actual attack.

When you realize that what you experience are panic symptoms, the important thing to understand is that it won’t kill you. What you experience is a malfunctioning of your body’s alarm system. It’s similar to a car alarm going off in an quiet car park with nobody near the car – there is no reason for you to feel this way, it has no basis in real life. Sit down, breathe deeply and regularly and wait for it to pass.

What Is An Anxiety Attack?

What Is An Anxiety Attack?

Panic attacks hit with no warning, bringing fear, stress, and anxiety along. Frequently, attacks occur without warning and lacking any apparent cause. Many people can feel only one episode of panic attack, while others might have frequent episodes. Chronic episodes usually come to pass after a person is exposed to various events or situations that may “trigger” panic. Panic attacks seldom cause lasting physical harm, but the emotional toll that they take on a victim can be brutal. Panic attacks may even develop into the more serious type of panic disorder.

Who gets panic attacks?

Lots of people are prone to panic attacks. This disorder is so widespread that there are reports that as many as 1 in 10 people have difficulty with panic attacks. Many sufferers of panic attacks are young adults. Women are at a disadvantage over men with more females than males being prone to panic attacks. There is additional evidence that panic attacks may be an inherited trait that runs in families.

What Are The Symptoms Of A Panic Attack?

A panic attack can be identified with different signs and symptoms. These signs may include increased heartbeat or palpitation, chest pain, hyperventilation or shortness of breath, stomach churning, upset stomach, trembling and shaking, muscle tension, sweating, dizziness and light-, hot or cold flashes, tingling sensation or numbness, fear of dying, going crazy or losing control and feeling detached from the surroundings.

Panic attack symptoms can mock the signs of a heart attack. The former is not dangerous, the latter can be deadly. Seeking medical attention is important, especially if this is the first panic attack you have had.

What cause an attack?

Often, there is no specific cause for panic attacks. In other cases, an event or situation in the person’s life can be responsible for the onset of panic attacks. An attack might occur when a person is exposed to different events or situations almost similar to the past that might “trigger” panic.

Stress is closely connected to panic attacks. From life events to tense working or living conditions, all of these can be triggers. Genetics is also believed to cause an attack.

What to Do In A Panic Attack

Panic attacks can be estimated to last less than 10 minutes and in rare cases somewhat longer.Lots of the above symptoms might be present. During a panic attack, you may want to control your breathing to maintain your heart rate down. You should be taking slow, deep breaths. Count to 3 while breathing in and count to 3 while exhaling.

Do this until you are calm. If you are able to stand up, walk around slowly. The old fashioned “breathe in to a paper bag” approach works for many. This allows you to re-breathe your carbon dioxide. This has the effect of regulating your blood acid levels that are disturbed by rapid breathing

While practicing deep breathing, make an effort to focus your thought away from the cause of panic. Replace the stressful thoughts with calm ones. You can also try distracting yourself with other things such as puzzles and thinking games.

For those who suffer from anxiety and panic attacks, many different things in life may be out of reach. Whether it’s traveling by plane, driving, social situations or other scenarios that cause anxiety to grow, it can be a terrible experience. Letting it continue on, however, is not an option for some people who wish to their live their lives ungoverned by fear. To help, here is a Panic Away review.

Panic attacks have been proven to be a physical danger to those who suffer from it and it’s advisable to cure yourself of these troubles as soon as possible.

A self-treatment eBook called Panic Away has been developed by Barry Joe McDonagh, who once suffered from the same anxiety and panic attacks many others are still plagued by. Through a series of exercises, he promises that many people will get over their panic attacks, which he believes are caused by the fear of the panic attack itself.

With sales up to 40,000, there is some weight behind his claims as well as a series of testimonials. With a practice called the ‘One Move Technique’, a person can apparently overcome the cycle anxiety-sufferers get caught in; fearing a panic attack, suffering from a panic attack, then beginning to fear about the next one.

However, with the normal price of $138 on the Panic Away website with offers of 50% off, it might be a pricey option for a potential flop; it may or may not work depending completely on you. If you have expended all other options and wish to try it, then you may be pleasantly surprised as it works, but again, it is dependent on the person. The package contains the Panic Away course, coaching sessions, support MP3s and presentations.

Opting for free treatments might be worth a try before you pay for such a service; the Panic Away course might not be for everyone.

Anxiety and panic attacks can have a debilitating effect on you! Discover how to end them now by checking out our Panic Away review in our comprehensive review of the pros and cons of the Panic Away eBook.

A migraine is a complaint that is quite often suffered by other family members, all of which have probably been experiencing them from a young age. Often these attacks can last for days where the victim must seek bed rest; however, if it is treated, they can end in a matter of hours. These attacks also leave the suffer feeling exhausted and might take them a while to recover fully.

The frequency of attacks between sufferers is not consistent with some only having one episode a year. Certain symptoms are common for many sufferers including a problem with bright lights, sometimes even dull light, in addition to flu like chills and lightheadedness. What isn’t understood is why migraines can start at an age as early as ten but normally stop before someone reaches the age of forty; however, by the time someone reaches fifty, attacks almost never occur.

Members of the same family are often cursed with migraine and there is believed to be a hereditary link; whilst genetic factors may be involved, this link has yet to be proved. It is believed that victims have a certain susceptibility in their brains that allows the blood vessels and nerves to become inflamed.

Science cannot as yet explain why this condition is more likely to affect women than men but women have a three times greater chance of having the condition than men; one in every 4 women will be a victim of it, whilst only 1 in 12 men will suffer with it at some point in their life.

Some people with the complaint are able to sense when an attack is imminent; this is called migraine with aura. There are many indications this may happen which will vary between sufferers which can be one or more of the following:

Feeling Sick

Problems with vision

Strange sounds or smell

Reduced sensation in sufferers extremities

Other symptoms exist but these appear to be the most common. The most common type of this condition is known as migraine without aura; this condition can escalate and is made worse by any movement, loud noises and bright lights which can cause the person to vomit.

The reasons we get migraines is far from clear and yet to be discovered but one assumption is that the blood vessels in areas of the brain become narrower which may be the explanation for the aura.

If the blood vessels then expand suddenly, this may cause the intense headache; those who are afflicted say the headache is often so intense that it impedes with regular routinely daily activity and may even keep them awake. The range of possible triggers that create an attack is huge; the most common are listed below:

Low pressure weather

Certain types of food

Particular foodstuffs

Traveling in a plane

Certain groups of drink

Very bright internal lighting

Infrequent or irregular eating habits

Any form of stress – either work or home related

It is for a person to keep a check to see if they have a pattern by which they can avoid situations that could lead to an attack.

Wendy Brausch has her own anxiety symptoms site to discover real life tips on how to handle panic and anxiety attack symptoms, and offers some useful guidance on how best to deal with it.

Panic anxiety attacks are traumatic episodes that render a person helpless and the feeling that he or she has no control over their emotions. Their emotional and mental state are so riled up that they are unable to function normally. An attack usually happens quickly and without warning if the person does not have the slightest clue about his diagnosis.

Should the disorder aggravates, the victim becomes more susceptible to the attacks and even the slightest trigger can cause them to become frantic. There are many symptoms that may hint at the possibility of an anxiety attack, and they always act up prior to and during the episode. Some of the symptoms are:

* Increase in heart rate and palpitations

* Nausea

*Quivering

* A dizzy feeling; the victim’s constitution is weak and he feels as if he’s about to faint

* Trembling

*A tingling sensation in the extremities

*A sense of detachment from oneself or from the rest of the world

* Hot flashes or chills

* A sense of detachment from oneself or from the rest of the world

* Chills or hot flashes

* An overwhelming fear that one is about to die

What Is The Cause?

Anxiety attacks emanate from the feelings that one is trapped in a predicament so serious that there is no way of extricating himself from it. In many cases, the victim thinks that he will not survive the episode and that his life is threatened. Such overwhelming feelings can often drive one out of his mind, causing things to spiral out of control.

The feelings of grief and depression are two emotions that trigger the onset of anxiety attacks. Medical conditions such as low blood sugar, chemical imbalance, and thyroid disorder are attributing factors to anxiety attacks as well. Some stimulants such as alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, antihistamines and amphetamines can also bring about anxiety attacks. To effectively curb anxiety attacks, you should look into ways to eliminate these factors.

It is a chained effect: Panic anxiety attacks are a symptom of mood disorders, and mood disorders are symptoms of a condition that is far more debilitating. Thus, if you have developed a phobia for a living thing such as cat, it is important that you delve deeper and understand your fear of cats, instead of just knowing that you are afraid of cats. Identify the cause of your fears.

Stamp out the root of the problem, overcome all your fears and you will be able to eliminate the possibility of an anxiety attack. It is important to diagnose the condition at an early stage and seeking treatment should be your topmost priority. If left untreated, the condition can deteriorate into something worse.

The Nexus Of The Crisis

If you begin to have panic anxiety attacks more than twice a week you should contact your health care provider. After some lab tests (i.e. blood work, ECG) to rule out medical conditions he will then cover your past history, medical and personal, taking note of any traumatic events or exceedingly stressful situations in your lifetime to try and centre on the core problem from which all other problems are originated.

There is a myriad of medications available to fight stress and its symptoms. More and more people are becoming receptive towards holistic methods of treatments, giving rise to the eminence of the use of herbs for anxiety relief. Herbal remedies have prevailed for generations and are used not only by victims of anxiety symptoms but those who suffer from common illnesses as well.

In every culture, there is a prominent figure that is revered for his knowledge in herbal remedies. This knowledge has been passed on from generation to generation. There is a rich history in the administering of herbal remedies for anxiety and their effectiveness has been known to man. However, there are detractors of this form of treatment, and they term it “witchcraft medicine”. Its relative affordability and safety for use over synthesized drugs has made herbs the preferred choice of treatment in the modern world.

The Beginnings Of Herbalism

Anxiety stirs in every living person periodically. It is when these emotions arise for no apparent reason that there is a cause for concern. One must identify the root of the problem immediately if recovery is desired. Until he can achieve mental wellness, he can use the myriad of natural herbal remedies to fight off the effects of stress.

Homeostasis can be achieved through combining herbs for anxiety disorders with prescription drugs. These herbs help to curb the possible side effects that are brought on by the use of drugs. Many people also have their own herb gardens where they can retrieve the needed remedies. This ensures convenience as the remedies become available right at their windows.

Circa 200 AD, Greek physician Claudius Galen discovered the medicinal uses of plants. Before his breakthrough discovery, his fellow Hippocrates advocated the benefits of keeping to healthy diet and regular exercise and the intake of herbal supplements as the steps to body wellness.

Herbs are becoming increasingly popular due to their sedentary effects and are often used as sleep inducers. Some examples of the common herbs used are Lemon Balm, St John’s Wort, Valerian and Kava. Chamomile is also good for its ability to restore calmness in one’s mind. It is hard to imagine that Romans led a highly stressful life as compared to us, but surely they do.

Other Herbs For Anxiety

Anxiety is a primordial emotion that every human being will feel almost close to a daily basis. Its sole purpose is to alert us to stressful situations and sometimes one is unable to control it. Passionflower is known for its tranquilizing effects and is used to combat sleeplessness brought on by anxiety.

Teas brewed from Rosemary leaves make a very effective calming agent and many people soak in a warm baking soda bath to relieve muscle tension. Why don’t you let your mate massage you with sesame oil, it’s calming, therapeutic and hey, who knows where it may go from there. Medical marijuana has even been touted in recent years to be a powerful calming agent, especially in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) patients.

One of the major benefits of using herbs for anxiety is that it is unlikely to create a dependence or addiction which is a major concern for its modern counterparts. The use of botanicals opens up an entirely new world of anxiety relief that is well worth the effort of looking into.

More and more people are encountering panic attacks during sleep. Recent numbers have shown a spike in the number of people who experience such attacks in the past few years. The events that happen in the daytime usually spill over to night time, and the stress that one faces does not go away in a couple of hours. This triggers the panic attack to happen at night.

For most people, the biological sleep and wake cycle is voluntary and natural. It is normally called the biological clock. However, for many others, the sleep and wake balance is quite sensitive. If it is not subjected to the normal timetable, it brings about a radical change in the person.

1. “It’s nothing!”

Initially it is easy to dismiss it as just lack of enough rest. Normally the afflicted person is subject to restlessness during the night and in the morning and finds it easy to dismiss the lack of sleep or insomnia. However, with growing recurrence of the loss of sleep it more often than not turns out to be a chronic disease.

2. Three prevalent signs

There are three common symptoms that victims of anxiety attacks display. The first one is insomnia, which is evident from daytime fatigue and lethargy as well as irregular sleep patterns. A large number of victims who deal with panic attacks often complain of insomnia. Women and elderly people are most vulnerable to the condition, though statistics in recent years have shifted to cover a wide group of demographics.

3. The nightly attacks

Panic attack during sleep is just a disorder for a small proportion of the people who suffer panic attacks. However it is normally understood to be the one of the most serious and disturbing. A victim of this disorder loses absolute interest in sleep. They actually fear falling asleep. This is because of the extreme nature of the symptoms of the disorder.

We all fear that we are not in control of ourselves during sleep. So when you are suffering from this condition you fear that falling asleep will result in complete lack of control when the symptoms strike. For most people suffering from this disorder, the symptoms normally border on some as dramatic as cardiac arrest.

4. Other symptoms

Other symptoms of this condition include: sweating profusely, suffocating, revulsions and uncontrollable shaking. Once the victim knows that his anxiety attacks are acting up, his fears intensify and the symptoms worsen. He goes into extreme frantic. Studies has revealed that victims are conversant with their conditions are most vulnerable to the attacks because they are constantly anticipating the next attack.

5. It does not occur due to dreaming

A large number of people have the wrong notion that the disorder acts up while one is asleep and dreaming. This theory cannot be any further from the truth, and it has been substantiated that a person will not have nightmares in consecutive nights. Anxiety attacks strike a person while he is still in the early stages of sleep.

6. Seeking treatment

So long as you are a victim of panic attacks, it is imperative that you seek professional help once you know you are living with the disorder. It does not matter how trivial your symptoms are; if the condition is not treated, it will aggravate.

Most sufferers of panic attacks often take a while to regain their composure and heal from the disorder. The contributing factors of panic attacks are often stress related. A person who allows his panic attacks to go untreated often experience aggravated episodes over time. Most people often confide in their therapists or loved ones and tell them this: “I feel weird months after a panic attack.”To that end, they often ask themselves why is it that they feel this way.

Panic Attacks are Caused by Stress

As mentioned earlier, stress is the contributing factor that triggers panic attack disorders. Many people live their lives in the fast lane, and stress is only part and parcel. This is a theory that many people accept. Our standards of living have risen and the stress that plagues our minds can be exhausting at times. We live in an age that prioritises and emphasizes on the importance of recognition and money. These are factors that can cause stress in someone.

The result of this phenomenon is why research has shown a spike increase in the reported number of panic attack and related cases worldwide. People in our time are experiencing panic attacks more so than our ancestors in any other time in the history of civilisation. This trend is perpetual and is not likely to die down anytime soon.

A Panic Attack Could Turn Worse Because It Is An Added Cause In Itself

Victims of panic attacks who let their condition go untreated are only giving it a chance to deteriorate. The symptoms of the condition often strike one without warning and they instil a sense of fear in the victims. Remember, stress is the contributing factor of panic attacks and since stress is inherent in our everyday lives, the condition will not better by itself.

The victim will first go through short bursts of panic attacks that strike them periodically. Over time, the episodes increase in frequency and the duration becomes longer. One must seek immediate help from a doctor. Most sufferers are not worried when they experience their first short attacks. It is when the episodes begin to affect them regularly and more seriously that they become proactive.

I Feel Weird Months After Panic Attacks

With each day that you live with the condition, your behaviour begins to change. This accounts for the reason why you feel weird or strange after your panic attacks. The psychological scars continue to haunt you long after you are cured from the disorder.

No Cause For Worry

The next time you ask the question, “Why do I feel weird months after panic attacks” understand that this is not a matter of life and death and you should let it hinder you in any way. Panic attacks are difficult to deal with, and it takes time for your mind and body to restore to normalcy. Be patient and always seek professional help when you begin to feel strange. With time, this feeling will fade away.

“Why do people have panic attacks?” is one of the first questions anyone will ask when engaged in a discussion of the condition. There are many reasons for panic attacks and understanding them will help you avoid from experiencing them. The underlying causes of panic attacks are unique to every individual, although there are some common ones.

Genetic Predisposition to Panic Attacks

For most people, genetic disposition is what causes panic attacks. If someone in your family lineage has suffered panic attacks, you too are at risk. If the people around you live their lives in the fast lane, and are constantly plagued by stress, you could encounter a panic attack too.

Lack of a Nutritious Diet

An unhealthy diet, one that is filled with junk food, is a big cause of panic attacks. Fast food is often the last resort as people are too busy with their lives to have a decent meal. Our body requires essential nutrients such as Vitamin B, Magnesium and Calcium. A lack of these nutrients can trigger a panic attack. Food must also be taken in moderation.

Highly Stressful Work Environments

Stress emanates from one’s working environment. Urgent deadlines, overtime, bosses’ relentless demands, a fear of losing one’s job and overload of work can cause one to become stressed. Prolonged hours of overwhelming pressure can cause both employees and employers to be stressed out. Employers begin to worry when there is new competiton in town, when losses are made and when they cannot seem to control their staff.

Lack of Knowledge on How to Handle Panic Attacks

Many people are clueless when it comes to panic attacks and they are not prepared to handle them when they act up. Most of them are not conversant with the following:

* The signs and symptoms of panic attacks

* Methods of preventing panic attacks

* The difference between panic attacks and anxiety attacks

* Cures for panic attacks

Answering the question, “Why do people have panic attacks” entails the need to recognise that everybody is different and that everyone has a different coping mechanism when it comes to dealing with stress. This means that treatment options should be unique to each person as well.

Animals And Insects

Some people have phobias for animals and insects and when they encounter them, they get panic attacks. One such insect is a spider – the fear of spiders is called Arachnophobia and people will fear even the spiders that are not dangerous. Many people are also fearful of snakes, even non-venomous ones, and others are fearful of being bitten by dogs.

Character Traits

Some people have character traits that have a higher risk of getting panic attacks. Examples of such people are introverts, worriers, and perfectionists. So, if you are wondering, why do people have panic attacks, the answer is that the reasons are many.
