No one is immune to stress, regardless of whether you work in banking, IT or any other field. Your job could be hanging on a thread, your workload may be unmanageable, you could be having trouble making ends meet or maybe your stress is caused by things happening in your personal life and this stress can potentially develop into physical pain and lead to a variety of illnesses.

Although your body is well-equipped to cope with short periods of stress, a tough day at work can also bring about pain in the form of a migraine and it’s even more difficult to deal with sustained high levels of stress over a longer period.

Stress comes from the Latin word “stringere”. That means to stretch out; and when the muscles become too tight from tension, we feel pain.

The tense muscles can affect the nerves and cause pain and the tightening is brought about by the stress-induced release of cortisol, adrenaline and other hormones from the brain. These hormones initiate the body’s fight-or-flight response. Aside from heightening muscle tension, they also increase heart rate, blood pressure and respiration as well as sweating.

One of the areas of the body that’s most vulnerable to stress-related pain is the neck. Largely, this is due to the fact that your neck is already supporting the weight of your head. Sometimes neck pain can be caused by bad habits such as holding the phone between your head and shoulders, but increased tension and stress can cause the pain to get more intense as it radiates.

Mental stress increases the risk of developing radiating neck pain, but the pain can be relieved with the help of some exercises. A visit to a physiotherapist may also be helpful.

Here’s one exercise that you can try: Sit or stand straight then gently lower your chin to your chest. You should feel the muscles at the back of your neck being stretched. Hold the position for 15 seconds and then lower your head gently to one side. Hold the position for another 15 seconds and then repeat on the other side.

Of course you’ll feel pain from stress, but you may not realize you could develop more serious issues such as heart disease and clinical depression. Be aware and take action as soon as you realize you’re under stress. Use relaxation techniques, do simple exercises and movements, and consult your physician or physical therapist as you need to.

When it seems that your life is at an impasse and your energy is low, you’ve probably absorbed a lot of negative thinking. That causes symptoms like depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem. Nothing seems to be working for you and you don’t know how to change things.

Accepting that we need help is in itself a major step towards relief. Most of us seek help from a doctor, rightly so. However, a prescription course of antidepressants is but a temporary remedy to your situation.

It really begins and ends with you. Go inward and see what negative thoughts are taking over your ideas.

While it’s natural for people to try to find someone else to blame when they encounter difficulty, the truth is that we are often the ones responsible for the things that go wrong. Therefore, we should begin by looking at ourselves and at how we choose to live our lives. We need to determine what’s wrong with our way of thinking as well as to figure out how to change it.

That doesn’t mean things will improve right away. You have to start here, but then it takes a lot of work to set things on the right track. It will take a while as you start to work on yourself.

You will need to work on ridding yourself of your negative thoughts daily. However, if you persevere and stick to your routine, you will realize that doing so will become easier each day. You’ll gradually be less likely to view things negatively and will start focusing on all the positive things that you never even noticed before.

Do keep in your mind that the improvement in your outlook will be gradual and directly proportional to the effort you put in and your commitment to it as well as your initial negativity.

It’s when you begin to see little signs of things getting better that you’ll know you can gear up. Time and energy given to this work will see you soon moving forward past blocks and impediments. Soon you’ll realize that you’ve become a successful person and that you’re worthy of achievement and recognition. From there you’re poised to only succeed more and more.

Anxiety or panic attacks can be cured completely, only by establishing the basic causes. It is impossible to treat a disease without tracing the root cause for it. Also, it is important to know in detail the implications of the disease.

However, this is easier said than done as panic attacks lack a physical cause and the triggers for panic attacks are highly individual. However, it can be said that episodes are generally brought about by emotional turmoil, such as stress, fear, loneliness, drug withdrawal, etc. This is especially common with people who have high-stress jobs.

Research shows that natural techniques outperform medical drugs in the treatment of panic attacks. While the drugs can temporarily alleviate the symptoms of a panic attack, they do nothing to address the underlying cause. You always have to remember this.

Stress is a major factor that can instigate panic attacks. Hence, learning about stress management could be very useful in treating a person suffering from these attacks.

Aside from being a natural technique, stress management is inexpensive as you neither need to pay a doctor’s consultation fee nor to buy any medication or equipment.

Some natural techniques that you can try are: meditation, breathing control, yoga, exercise, and guide imagery. However, please note that certain religions are opposed to the practices of meditation and/or yoga. Ever since I started doing Yoga, it has made a huge difference in handling stress.

With meditation, the goal is to free up the mind by channeling your energies toward the elimination of negative thoughts. If you use this technique, it’s always best to have a positive attitude about them before you get started.

Other things that you can do to prevent panic attacks are abstaining from drugs and alcohol and having a healthy and balanced diet. It’s important to exercise regularly but it’s likewise important to give both your body and your brain adequate rest in the form of a good night’s sleep and regular breaks during the day. If you want to permanently rid yourself of panic attacks, you should make these lifestyle changes permanent as well.

Anyone can be struck by ‘Panic Attack’. It could happen at any time of the day and at any place. It could happen even when you are in the midst of anything like walking, driving, shopping etc. It is a horrible feeling that can leave the person hit by it, devastated.

Since I have also suffered due to this, I don’t think it would be good idea to discuss or mention the signs or symptoms as it might bring back bad memories and make things worse. However, we have to brave ourselves to face things and strengthen our mental makeup. So let us take the first step towards fighting and save guarding ourselves from panic attacks by reading this article.

When a panic attack is about to make its hit, there are steps you can take to help yourself. As the first symptom is the shortening of breath, it is NOT a good idea to start by taking a deep breath.

When a person who is unable to breathe properly tries to take a deep breath, this will only make things worse. He/she will notice that his/her breathing has still not improved, and that he/she is still short of breath. This might cause more tension and worry for the person. At such times, try to divert your mind from what is happening. Think of something else that you like, something that you enjoy doing, someone you love. Don’t think about your breathing problem.

A panic attack is just that, and so many people suffer from them and understand the feeling. There is no need to give it any further thought and look around you for something else to think about. Find something that will distract you from what is currently being triggered.

Don’t ever sit in the same place and brood about it. Go out and get some fresh air, take a walk, go play with your pet, chat or talk with your family or friends, jump or dance. Repeat to yourself that you are not going to let this panic attack make you weak or frightened.

These acts that I have mentioned above are easier said. I know this, as I have undergone these attacks myself and suffered because of it. But what I actually mean is, you should try to act as fast as you can and distract yourself without waiting for too long.

The sooner you come to realize you need to act fast to prevent further attacks, the better off you will be. Do not delay because you believe that over time the panic attacks will cease because they will do the opposite. Panic disorder will not just go away on their own-it is up to you to take control of before they end up controlling you and your daily life.
